Welcome

Hampton is the story of people -- enslaved African Americans, indentured servants, industrial and agricultural workers, and owners. It is also the story of the economic and moral changes that made this kind of life obsolete. When it was finished in 1790, Hampton was the largest house in the United States. Set among beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens, it remains a showplace today.

CAUTION!

NOTICE!

As of April 1, 2009 the National Park Service has begun improving parking facilities at Hampton National Historic Site. Visitors coming by cars, POVs should follow the temporary signage to access the mansion and temporary parking lot.

During the period of construction, April and May, 2009 the main parking lot will be unavailable for bus parking.

Mother's Day Spectacular

  • A Grounds Tour
  • Carriage Rides

Mom. Come join us for an afternoon.
A grounds tour will be held at 1:00 pm. This will last approximately 40 minutes. Please wear comfortable shoes.

Free carriage rides will run every 20 minutes from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. Timed tickets will be available at noon. First come--first served.

Special Parking Note. As our regular listeners already know, we are re-paving our park roadway. Please plan to park in the traditional lot by the park office, or in the lot on the farm property. Both lots will require a walk to get to the mansion. Please bring a sense of humor, and, for goodness sakes, don't block any roadways.

A Calendar Change

The Edgar Allan Poe performance originally scheduled for April 26th has been rescheduled for May 30th at 2:00 p.m.
