FORT scientists in the Policy Analysis and Science Assistance Branch conduct and integrate biological, social, economic, and institutional analyses of conservation policies and management practices to help land and resource managers make informed decisions and resolve resource management conflicts.
USGS scientist Susan Skagen will present a status report of the “Program for Regional and International Shorebird Monitoring,” present an overview of “Shorebirds of dispersed wetland landscapes: Research and conservation challenges,” and chair a paper session and discussions on shorebird monitoring during the third meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group March 9-13 in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. The Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group focuses broadly on shorebird research, monitoring, site-based conservation, outreach/education, and international to local initiatives. This international meeting will foster collaborations and help to integrate science among biologists studying breeding, staging, and wintering shorebirds throughout the Western Hemisphere.
