Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Data for Wisconsin
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) resources are used by the USGS to emphasize the spatial relationships among the objects being mapped. GIS is used in nearly all the water-resources research conducted by the USGS. The Wisconsin District office employs several geographers who specialize in GIS, as well as hydrologists and other scientists who regularly use GIS as a tool in their research.
GIS makes it possible to link, analyze, and display information that is difficult to associate through any other means. A critical component of a GIS is its ability to produce maps that convey geographic information to the people who make decisions about resources.
