Since its debut in 1997, the United States Mint’s American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin has featured Lady Liberty on the obverse, a symbol of vigilance and resolute faithfulness to duty. Designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor/Engraver John Mercanti, Lady Liberty again graces the obverse of the American Eagle Platinum Proof coin in 2006, joined by the first of three new designs created to honor our Nation’s three branches of government; the Legislative, Executive and Judicial.

Designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz, and engraved by United States Mint Sculptor/Engraver Don Everhart, the reverse of the 2006 American Eagle Platinum Proof coin features an allegorical depiction of the Legislative muse as she inscribes the law, flanked by twin pillars representing the United States Senate and House of Representatives. An American eagle is perched atop each pillar, as if protecting the newly written law.

The 2007 American Eagle Platinum Coins honor the Executive branch of our federal government, and the series will conclude in 2008 with a design to honoring the Judicial branch.
