NMFS Prohibits Directed Fishing for Yellowfin Sole by Vessels Participating in the Amendment 80 Limited Access Fishery in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing directed fishing for yellowfin sole by vessels participating in the Amendment 80 limited access fishery in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, November 22, 2008, according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2008 halibut bycatch allowance specified for the trawl yellowfin sole fishery category by vessels participating in the Amendment 80 limited access fishery in the BSAI and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.21(e)(3)(vi)(B) and 679.21(e)(7)(v).

After the effective date of this closure the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
