NMFS Reallocates Pacific Halibut from Rockfish Cooperatives in the Central Gulf of Alaska Rockfish Pilot Program The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is reallocating 135 metric tons (mt) of unused halibut prohibited species catch (PSC) from the rockfish cooperatives in the Central Gulf of Alaska (GOA) Rockfish Pilot Program to vessels using trawl gear in the GOA, according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to provide the opportunity to vessels using trawl gear to harvest available GOA groundfish total allowable catch (TAC) under existing PSC limits, and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.21(d)(5)(iii)(B). This action does not imply any change in the status of the fisheries. This information bulletin only provides notice of a regulatory change.
