The genetic causes hearing loss are the following:

• 30% are due to a genetic syndromes
• 56% are nonsyndromic due to autosomal recessive genes
• 12% are nonsyndromic due to autoosomal dominant genes
• 2% are nonsyndromic due to X linked genes or mitochondrial inheritance

Syndromic Hearing Loss:

Examples of the most frequent syndromes associated with hearing loss are:

• Stickler Syndrome: as an autosomal dominant disorder with sensorineural hearing loss, occasional conductive hearing loss, midface hypoplasia, marfanoid habitus.
