Spotted, medium-sized frog reaching a maximum length of 5 inches. Dorsum is gray, tan, or green with irregular brown or black rounded spots. Light spot in tympanum. Hind toes are webbed. Commonly confused with R. palustris. Males call, and females lay eggs throughout the year. Females lay flattened egg masses containing 1,000 to 1,500 eggs. Each egg is enveloped in a double membrane. Eggs are laid in shallow freshwater. Species occurs throughout Louisiana in permanent freshwater habitats.
