Pine woods treefrog (Hyla femoralis)

Small treefrog reaching 1.75 inches in total length. Individuals are black, greenish gray, green, or reddish brown in coloration and have long, dark blotches on dorsum that are often fused. White, yellow or orange spots mark the back of each thigh. Preys on small arthropods. Call sounds like the rapid tapping of telegraph keys and can be heard from April to mid-August. Females lay up to 800 yellow or brown eggs in groups of 100 each. Eggs float on the surface of the water with surface film or are attached to vegetation on or near the surface. Species occurs in long leaf pine hills and the flat woods of the Florida Parishes.
