A large, flat, squatty toad reaching almost 5 inches in length. Dorsum varies from black with hints of orange to yellow with light spots. Conspicuous light mid-dorsal stripe and a light, dorsolateral stripe on each side. Well developed yellow cranial crests forming a "Y" shape. Call is a short, low trill that lasts up to 2 seconds and it is heard from early April to mid-September. Females lay long, gelatinous string of eggs in shallow pools of water. Eggs are often positioned in double rows. Inhabits similar areas as B. americanus. Adapts easily in urban areas. Species occurs in the central and southern part of the State. Species also occurs in Morehouse and Richland Parish in the northern part of the State.
