Medium-sized, round, yellow to gray toad ranging from 2 to 3 inches in length. Dark brown or black dorsal spots contain three or more warts per spot. Venter ranges from spotless to heavily marked. Elongate parotoid glands usually touch the postorbital ridges. Narrow cranial crests are low and generally sharply ridged. Calls from early/mid-March to early-July. Voice is a nasal "waah." Hybrid calls are variable. Females lay eggs in single lines in a tube. Inhabits similar areas as B. americanus. Species occurs throughout Louisiana excluding coastal marshes.
