The NLM Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders (WISER(r) http://wiser.nlm.nih.gov/) has been named a Computerworld 2007 Honors Program Laureate, Healthcare Category. http://www.cwhonors.org/viewCaseStudy.asp?NominationID=162 WISER is designed to assist emergency responders during hazardous material incidents. It provides a wide range of critical information on hazardous substances, including substance identification support, physical characteristics, human health information, and containment and suppression advice. It is available as a free, downloadable application on PDAs (Palm, Pocket PC) and Microsoft Windows(tm) PCs. When an Internet connection is available, WebWISER (http://webwiser.nlm.nih.gov/) provides access to the same functionality of the standalone applications and includes support for PDA browsers and some phones. WISER's information is extracted from the National Library of Medicine Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB(r)), a peer-reviewed database with comprehensive information on over 5,000 hazardous substances. HSDB is part of the TOXNET(r) system, a group of databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases. A list of all Computerworld 2007 Laureates can be found at http://www.cwhonors.org/laureates/2007laureates.htm **** NLM-TOX-ENVIRO-HEALTH-L NOTICE **** You are receiving this message as a subscribed member of NLM-TOX-ENVIRO-HEALTH-L, a discussion list available from the National Library of Medicine.
