Cultural Resources

George Washington Birthplace NM contains a variety of cultural resources from the Middle Woodland prehistoric period, Henry Brooks' house site (1651-1725), John Washington and descendents' house site and adjacent family burial ground(1656-1743), and Augustine Washington's house site (George Washington's birthplace, 1718-1779). These resources are under study by archeologists from the National Park Service and other institutions.

 

 

Natural Resources

The park has some of the most interesting and scenic treasures in Virginia. The 550 acre park lies within the Chesapeake Bay eco-system and includes Potomac River beach, upland forest, open fields, and marshlands. The park contains unique plant and animal species.
