PCU 8: Windows Operating Systems

Description of Job Duty Competency to be Achieved

Ability to install, upgrade, administer and trouble-shoot Microsoft Windows based operating systems in the office environment.


Description of Need

To maintain the office PC software environment in support of NWS operations, administration, and developmental requirements.


Specific Job Task Skills and Knowledge

1. Understand PC architectures.

2. Install and configure the MS Windows O/S(s) on office PCs.

3. Ability to install COTS applications under the Windows O/S(s).

4. Ability to troubleshoot Windows O/S problems.

5. Keep current with O/S changes and upgrades.

6. Assist users with the Windows user interface.
