HURRICANE VIEW FROM SPACE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET

The latest hurricane images from NOAA's weather satellites 22,300 miles in space are now a click away on the Internet, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced today. Hurricane Hortense images are updated every half hour.

Internet users can browse through satellite imagery from NOAA's geostationary operational environmental satellites (GOES). The real-time GOES imagery includes infrared, visible and water vapor images from GOES-8 and GOES-9.

GOES-8 overlooks the East Coast of the United States and well out into the Atlantic Ocean. GOES-9 overlooks the West Coast and well out into the Pacific Ocean, including Hawaii. These satellites are a mainstay of the nation's weather information system. They are operated by NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service in Suitland, Md.

The address of the GOES browser is: http://goeshp.wwb.noaa.gov
