NATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL DATA CENTER RECEIVES GOVERNMENT COMPUTER NEWS AWARD

The National Geophysical Data Center in Boulder, Colo., has received an award from Government Computer News for excellence in the application of information technology. The center was cited for its outstanding performance in improving services delivery to its customers.

The data center was cited for its innovative application of information technology and improvements in services delivery.

The center, part of the Commerce Department's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), maintains an active archive of environmental data in the fields of marine geology and geophysics, solar-terrestrial physics, solid earth geophysics and paleoclimatology. These data are vital to the scientific understanding of the Earth.

The award was presented to Chris Miller at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Washington last night. Miller is with NESDIS's Environmental Information Services division.
