Prospection in Depth 2009

Prospection in DepthOur ability to locate buried features without digging has grown steadily, but so has the technological learning curve. The NCPTT’s Prospection in Depth 2009 will be held in response to the emergent need for advanced technological training. This is a five-day workshop that will bring participants up to date on geophysical prospection skills.

Prospection in Depth, a workshop on geophysical prospection, will take place in partnership with the Presidio Trust at El Presidio de San Francisco in California on August 4-8, 2009.  The course fee is $499, which includes lodging at the Presidio's historic barracks. The workshop will feature ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity/conductivity, gradiometry, and other key techniques.  Multiple instructors will teach a combination of these techniques.  What makes this course unique is that it combines ground-truthing with traditional geophysics training to emphasize data collection techniques and interpretation.

Prospection in Depth 2009 is open to archaeologists from all career tracks, as well as resource managers and other professionals with experience in field archaeology, but it is intended for people who already have a professional level of experience in their career.  Archaeological contract firms, in particular, will be targeted for instruction.  Up to 30 applicants will be accepted.

The cost for the workshop is $499.  This fee covers tuition, and lodging will be provided for free at the Presidio's historic barracks, although participants will have to provide bedding (i.e., sleeping bag).  A variety of alternate housing (i.e., hotels) is available nearby, at your expense.
