Description of Job Duty Competency to be Achieved

Properly install and maintain Cooperative Program station.


Description of Need

In order to ensure consistent, high-quality data, proper installation and maintenance of equipment and instruments are essential.


Specific Job Task Skills and Knowledge

1. Demonstrate the ability to install and maintain rain gauges.

  • Standard rain gauge
  • Fischer-Porter recording rain gauge
  • Universal rain gauge
  • Wind Shields in support of precipitation gauges
  • 2. Demonstrate the ability to install and maintain temperature systems.

  • Maximum-Minimum Temperature Systems
  • Soil Temperature systems
  • Cotton Region shelter with maximum-minimum thermometers
  • Hygrothermographs/thermographs
  • 3. Demonstrate the ability to install and maintain evaporation measuring equipment.

  • F104-D anemometer
  • Monel and galvanized pans
  • Sixes thermometers
  • Stilling wells
  • Hook and spider gauge
  • 4. Demonstrate the ability to properly prepare observing sites.

  • Fence to protect evaporation sites
  • Trenching for instrument installation
  • Electrical connections
  • Closed-loop surveys
  • 5. Demonstrate the ability to install and maintain snow measuring equipment.

  • Snow boards
  • Snow stakes
  • Snow density sampler
  • 6. Demonstrate the ability to install and maintain river stage equipment.

  • Wire weight gauge
  • Staff gauge
  • Determine wire weight gauge check-bar setting
