Description |
The AGS Annual Scientific Meeting is the premier educational event in geriatrics, providing the latest information on clinical care, research on aging, and innovative models of care delivery. The 2009 Annual Meeting will address the educational needs of geriatrics professionals from all disciplines. Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, social workers, long-term care and managed care providers, health care administrators, and others can update their knowledge and skills through state-of-the-art educational sessions and research presentations.

Description |
Please join us for a discussion and performance by playwright Naomi Greenberg and her sister, actress Vivienne Shub. Ms. Greenberg will discuss aspects of aging as it relates to entertainment and the performing arts. Ms. Shub will perform excerpts from a play about her life, written by Ms. Greenberg, as well excerpts from other plays written for older actors to show the vitality and importance of aging roles. |

Description |
Changing Lives is a one-day conference and exhibition designed to be inspiring, interactive, and fun for providers of housing and services for the aging. Organized by a dedicated team of Business Affiliates and provider members, the conference will feature morning keynote sponsored by LarsonAllen LLP, afternoon general session sponsored by North Hill and six participatory workshops. The daylong conference will be held on May 6, 2009. The exhibit hall will be open from 12:15pm through 2:00pm. Conference attendees will have maximum opportunity to visit with exhibitors as the lunch, sponsored by Omnicare of Massachusetts - North Shore Pharmacy/McClelland Pharmacy, will be served within the exhibit area. In 2008, more then 250 aging service providers attended.

The Aging Well Expo will address a broad range of topics which will be covered in workshops to help older Iowans live healthier, more independent lives.
Wednesday's keynote speaker will be Patty Duke on the topic of mental health and wellness. Today, almost fifty years after her acting debut, Anna Marie Patty Duke Pearce is still going strong. She is a happy, wife, mother, mental spokesperson and actress who starred in about a dozen feature films and over seventy movies for television. We will have a strong focus on her topic throughout the day. |

Description |
At the conclusion of this program participants will be able to recognize the current concepts of the role of environmental and inherited factors in Parkinson's disease; identify the common presenting signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease and related disorders; appreciate the stages of progression of Parkinson's disease and the roles of physical, pharmacologic and surgical therapies; recognize the role of nursing and appropriate interventions at each state of
Parkinson's disease; recognize non-motor and psychological aspects of this complex illness and the value of a comprehensive team approach; identify at least 3 different medication classes used to treat Parkinson's disease and discuss the role, advantages and disadvantages of each; recognize the significant impact that Parkinson's disease can have on communication and swallowing; and identify risk factors related to mobility and appropriate therapy interventions.

EXPO 2009 will feature outstanding training, technical assistance and networking opportunities for all who attend. EXPO is a learning conference first and foremost. We've scheduled a series of one-, two-, and three-day Intensive Training Sessions designed to offer full immersion in the topic at hand, taught by experts. Later in the week, attendees will have their choice of dozens of specialized Professional Development Workshop Sessions, led by community and public transit peers and covering the industry's most pressing topics and issues.
