Argonne National Laboratory — General Counsel
Argonne National Laboratory seeks applications from highly qualified candidates
for the position of General Counsel. Argonne a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory
managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC is one of the preeminent multidisciplinary
research facilities in the country located about 25 miles southwest of Chicago.
The General Counsel is the chief legal officer for the organization and provides
advice and counsel to senior management on all legal matters; works closely
with all executive team members to support the legal and business needs of
the organization; supervises all attorneys in the office of the General Counsel;
sets legal policies, protecting the legal interests of the organization and
ensuring that the business practices, policies and activities meet legal & regulatory
requirements. General duties include the negotiation and documentation of significant
transactions, management of outsourced legal activities, and compliance with
regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate should have sound legal and business judgment, excellent
decision making and negotiating skills, oral and written communication skills,
and ability to supervise and develop staff attorneys and paralegals; significant
years of relevant legal experience; experience with federal agencies, especially
Department of Energy or Department of Defense highly preferred; strong academic
record; and direct experience working in a corporate legal department actively
involved in evaluating, negotiating and executing government contracts highly
desirable. Intellectual property experience is helpful.
A JD and license to practice law in Illinois or able to be licensed in Illinois
within 6 months is required. Ability to obtain a “Q” clearance.
