Parsons, KS -- Many residents of Crawford, Labette and Neosho counties received losses and damages from the severe storms and tornadoes on April 19th and 20th. Anyone who suffered storm-related damage should call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration number 1-800-462-9029 (TTY-1-800-462-7585). Lines are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (CDT) until further notice.

"Federal and state disaster assistance is available for everyone, whether your income is low or high, whether or not you have insurance," said Louis Botta, federal coordinating officer for FEMA.

"We hope that all storm victims in the affected counties, regardless of income, insurance or any other factors, will register with FEMA's toll-free number as soon as possible," said State of Kansas Human Services Officer Angee Morgan. "Registering by phone is the only way to begin the application process."

"It is better to be registered with FEMA and not need assistance now, than to not be registered at all and find out you need assistance later," said Deputy Federal Coordinating Officer Dan Best. "Sometimes, there is hidden damage that a home or business owner doesn't initially notice. By registering with FEMA you will still be eligible for assistance if future problems from the disaster arise."

Registering with the American Red Cross (ARC) or any other agency does not make you eligible for federal assistance. Only registering with FEMA can do that.

If you have already registered for disaster assistance and still have questions, call FEMA's toll-free Helpline at: 1-800-525-0321 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). The Helpline is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (CDT) until further notice.
