Flood Insurance Seminar To Be Held In Washington, MO

St. Clair, MO -- National Flood Insurance Program officials will conduct a NFIP seminar in Washington, Mo., on Tuesday, June 6. The purpose of the seminar is to increase insurance producers' understanding of the NFIP. Insurance producers are the source for purchasing flood insurance.
The June 6 seminar will be held in the council chambers of Washington City Hall, 405 Jefferson St., Washington. The seminar runs from 8 a.m. to noon; registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
Agents attending the seminar will receive four hours of Property and Casualty Insurance continuing education credits. There is no fee for this seminar.
"Flooding is the most common type of disaster to which the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) responds," said Federal Coordinating Officer Peter Martinasco. "With that in mind, FEMA reaches out to communities to explain the importance and benefits of purchasing and maintaining flood insurance policies."
Martinasco noted that recent flash flooding underscores the fact that flooding can occur at any time and virtually anywhere, and that individuals and communities should protect themselves by purchasing flood insurance.
"It is important that we provide as much assistance as possible to local officials, lenders, agents and realtors regarding the National Flood Insurance Program," said, State Coordinating Officer Jerry Uhlmann, director of the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. "Having businesses and individuals covered by flood insurance means less financial risk for them in the event of a flood. Increased flood insurance coverage in flood-prone areas also means fewer tax dollars are likely to be spent on future flood-related issues."
