Policy Overview

U.S. security policy in Europe protects vital national interests that have been threatened by two world wars and the Cold War. The U.S. goal is the establishment of an integrated system that will enhance stability and provide security for all. This policy rests upon the cornerstones of NATO, cooperation with Russia, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), an enhanced partnership with the European Union on regional and global issues, and adapting the treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) to the new European security realities.
