Background
Pediatric Terrorism and Disaster Preparedness: A Resource
for Pediatricians enables pediatricians to become informed and aware of
their roles in disaster preparedness and response. The report was prepared for
the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) by the American Academy
of Pediatrics (AAP).
The Resource and the Summary will help the pediatrician:
- Understand the roles of government agencies in planning for and responding to disasters and bioterrorism.
- Understand the roles for the pediatrician in planning and responding.
- Know how to communicate and coordinate with government agencies at all levels.
- Recognize and care for mental health needs of children in the aftermath of a disaster.
- Learn how to develop an emergency preparedness plan for pediatric practices.
- Learn about the mechanisms and outcomes of various categories of terrorist events and natural disasters.
