National Wetlands Research Center (NWRC)

The National Wetlands Research Center (NWRC) is a source and clearinghouse of science information about the wetlands and coastal environments of the United States and the world, with special emphasis on the Gulf of Mexico Coast and the Lower Mississippi Valley. The Center focuses on wetland ecosystems and wetland-dependent flora and fauna, including rare or exotic plants, waterfowl, wading and Neotropical birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates.

Physiological Ecology and Ecohydrology of Coastal Forested EcosystemsPhysiological Ecology and Ecohydrology of Coastal Forested Wetlands. The form, function, and productivity of wetland communities are influenced strongly by the hydrologic regime of an area. Wetland ecosystems persist by depending upon surpluses of rainfall, evapotranspiration, soil moisture, and frequency and amplitude of water-level fluctuations.
