NOAA SCIENCE ADVISORY BOARD TO RECEIVE RESEARCH REVIEW TEAM REPORT

A preliminary report on NOAA research will be delivered to the NOAA Science Advisory Board during its meeting Jan. 6, in Washington, D.C. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

“We look forward to the preliminary report of the review team,” said Leonard Pietrafesa, interim chair of the Science Advisory Board. “This is the first step to a comprehensive review with recommendations on the future of how research should be conducted within NOAA.”

The Science Advisory Board is the only federal advisory committee with responsibility to advise the NOAA Administrator (also titled the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere) on long- and short-range strategies for research, education and the application of science to resource management and environmental assessment and prediction. It will meet at 1 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel at Metro Center, 12th and G streets NW, Washington, D.C.

Attendance is open to any interested individual, but registration is required. Persons can register at the meeting. Verbal public input will only be conducted during the public statement period from 2:30-3:30 p.m., unless the Chair requests otherwise. The limit for verbal statements by any individual or group is five minutes, with follow-up questions and discussion by the Board, if requested by the Chair. Written statements will be accepted up until the meeting ends.
