An Introduction to Salt Caverns and Their Use for Disposal of Oil Field Wastes

This report is a brochure that describes the use of salt caverns for disposal of oil field wastes. It is short, concise, and written for non-technical audiences. It condenses material on salt caverns previously published in four other Argonne reports that are also available on this website. The brochure is useful for persons who want to learn some basic information about salt caverns but who do not want to read the full reports, persons without intimate familiarity with waste management practices, or persons who are intimidated by lengthy technical reports.
