Prospection in Depth 2009, a course in archaeological geophysics, will be hosted from August 4-8, 2009 in partnership with the Presidio Trust at the site of El Presidio de San Francisco, in California. Register for this course online.

The National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT) in partnership with Save Our Cemeteries, Inc. (SOC) will be holding a Limewash Workshop on June 13, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The purpose of this event is to educate people about the differences in cast and wrought iron and preservation/restoration methods for each type of material. This workshop will be useful to anyone who cares for historic buildings, parks, or cemeteries.

The Nationwide Cemetery Preservation Summit will be held October 19-21, 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee. The program will feature contributed papers, a poster session, and an optional half day of field sessions and workshops.

Preservation Institute: Nantucket (PI:N) is an interdisciplinary program that exposes participants to the theories and methodologies of international cultural heritage conservation and the research, documentation, and management of current and potential World Heritage sites.

Kirk Cordell and Andrew Ferrell of NCPTT will be guest lecturing at the Preservation Institute: Nantucket.

The registration deadline for this workshop is April 24, 2009. The workshop will provide guidance for professionals and students in the use of diagnostic nondestructive testing for historic structures. It is intended for technically oriented graduates and practicing engineers, architects, preservation consultants, and contractors who are not familiar with this subject area.

NCPTT is soliciting oral and poster presentations that focus on research and innovation in cemetery conservation and preservation for the NCPTT’s Nationwide Cemetery Preservation Summit to be held in Nashville, Tenn., October 19-21, 2009.

Co-organized for the first time with the Chinese State Administrator of Cultural Heritage, this
is the fourth course on “Preventive Conservation-Reducing Risks to Collections” held by ICCROM, in partnership with the Canadian Conservation Institute and the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage.

International Preservation Trades Workshop and International Trades Education Symposium this August 25-29, 2009 in Leadville, Colorado.

This course emphasizes sound maintenance techniques for cemetery and commemorative monuments that are sustainable, cyclic, non-invasive, and do no harm. The course will address documentation, maintenance plans, stone deterioration, cleaning, and resetting headstones.

This course emphasizes sound maintenance technqiues for historic iron fences. These resources could be located around cemetery markers, commemorative monuments, or architectural features.

Dr. George Skarmeas will speak on the topic of preservation and sustainability with case studies on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at 5:00PM at LSU, Baton Rouge, Design Building Auditorium, Room 103.

The United States Committee of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (US/ICOMOS) will honor the memory of its former Board Member and distinguished Fellow Saidee Watson Newell by naming the first public lecture of the “US/ICOMOS International Preservation Lecture Series” in her honor.

The fifteenth annual University of Oregon, Pacific Northwest Field School in Historic Preservation will take place at three sites this year that are all centrally located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

The topic is the use of eddy currents for identification of metals (ferrous and non-ferrous), measuring the thickness of corrosion, and the recovery of serial numbers and/or images beneath corrosion.

The Association for Preservation Technology International is accepting abstracts for its 2009 Conference in Los Angeles, California, USA.

NCPTT’s comparative research on cleaners for cemetery headstones will be featured as part of the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute’s workshop on microbial colonization of stone. The workshop will be held April 20-22, 2009 in Washington, DC.

Organized by ATC and SEI of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), this conference is dedicated to improving the seismic performance of existing buildings and other structures.
