Abstract
Michael D. Levi (1997) "Usability
Testing Web Sites at the Bureau of Labor Statistics,"
Transcript of a talk at Usability Engineering 2: Measurement
and Methods, a NIST Symposium.
Mr. Levi describes some of the techniques used at the
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to evaluate several
government Web sites. These methods include both expert
inspection techniques and empirical end-user testing. Much of
this talk concerns the organizational issues behind these
evaluation efforts - how and why did usability testing come
about, what foundation was required, and how do the
evaluations fit into the standard software development life
cycle. The transcript ends with a broad question and answer
session.
