Sector 8 : Time Resolved Research Group
Welcome to beamline 8-ID of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) located at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). Beamline 8-ID is part of APS X-ray Operations and Research (XOR) organization and is operated by the Time-Resolved Research Group, which is part of the APS X-Ray Science Division (XSD).
Beamline 8-ID has 2 experiment enclosures---8-ID-E and 8-ID-I---and 80% of the available beamtime is accessible to outside users through the General User program. The main research programs pursued at these two beamlines are described below.
8-ID-I is dedicated to the study of equilibrium fluctuations and fluctuations about the evolution to equilibrium condensed matter in the small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) geometry via x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) or x-ray intensity fluctuation spectroscopy (XIFS).
8-ID-E is dedicated to the study of ordering and kinetics at surfaces and interfaces via the technique of grazing incidence small-angle x-ray-scattering (GISAXS). 8-ID-E also hosts programs to measure equilibrium dynamics via XPCS at large wave vector transfers and at liquid surfaces.
