This collection contains selected historic glacier images from Glacier National Park’s archives, paired with repeated images taken by USGS staff. Some of the historic photos date nearly one hundred years previous to the contemporary photos and document dramatic glacial recession. Other pairs were taken only thirty years apart and still show dramatic change in size. Vegetation changes are also visible in some of the photographs.

See museum exhibition of glacier repeat photos.

Fire Lookouts

This collection contains panoramic images taken from fire lookouts in Glacier National Park and adjacent National Forest lands in the 1930s. Digital versions available on this site were scanned from negatives. Many of these images have been repeated by USGS Global Climate Change Project staff and the repeated pairs will be served on this site in the future.
