Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP)
FUSRAP was created by Congress to remediate buildings and soils at multiple sites contaminated with radiological materials that resulted from early atomic weapons production in the United States. EVS staff are currently assisting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop cost-saving solutions to the contamination problem at numerous FUSRAP sites. On the basis of experience gained from support to other federally owned radiologically contaminated projects, EVS has contributed technological expertise in areas such as human and ecological risk assessment, adaptive sampling and analytical methods, precise excavation techniques, and Internet-based data management. By applying precise excavation techniques, which combine innovative field radiation measurements, global positioning system technology, and advanced analytical methods, at several FUSRAP projects, the potential for uncontaminated soils to be shipped off site has been greatly reduced and significant cost savings have been realized.
