1902 -- A severe storm hit Fort Wayne at 4:45pm and did considerable damage.
1937 -- The Hindenburg crashed at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Thirty-six people were killed. Static electricity in the air from a nearby thunderstorm may have had something to do with the disaster.
1961 -- A tornado moved sue east from just south of Wolcottville, Indiana 37 miles to western Williams County, Ohio. Bryan Lake and Hamilton Lake were hard hit. A car was thrown into Bryan Lake.
1968 -- South Bend's coldest May temperature: 24°.
1989 -- An inch of snow fell on Chicago. Flurries were reported at Fort Wayne.
1999 -- A thunderstorm blew numerous trees and power lines down along a path from 4 miles south of LaCrosse to 4 miles south of LaPorte. Wind damage was also reported in Michigan five miles north of Berrien Center and five miles northwest of Dowagiac.
