Ms. Sharon E. Barrett has over thirty years of leadership in public, nonprofit and private sectors in program and policy development, administration, and public health practice for eliminating health disparities for vulnerable and underserved populations, especially minorities and women. Ms. Barrett retired from a successful career in the Federal Public Health Service in 2003, is currently completing her Doctorate in Public Health at the newly accredited Morgan State University School of Public Health and Policy She consults on minority and women's health issues, primary care, cultural competency and health literacy. She is a consultant with the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved and is serving as a Principal Investigator to a Kaiser Permanente and Commonwealth Fund study to identify health practices primary care clinicians utilize to improve communication with their patients during the clinical visit. Ms. Barrett is also a member of the IOM Roundtable on Health Literacy.
