Nancy E. Norman, MD, MPH, a native Bostonian is the Medical Director for the Boston Public Health Commission, the health department for the City of Boston. In this capacity she oversees the clinical functions of the Commission and develops initiatives to address emerging health problems. She joined the Commission recently after serving as a clinician and Director of Women's Health at Fenway Community Health Center for nine years. Dr. Norman completed her training, including chief residency in internal medicine at Faulkner Hospital in Boston after receiving a BA in biology from Bowdoin College and a MD from Boston University School of Medicine. She later received a MPH from Harvard University School of Public Health and is now a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Norman dedicates many hours to community service and to professional organizations. She is actively involved in the Committee to Advance the Health of Minority Women at the National Center of Excellence of Women's Health at Harvard Medical School, and in 2002, was honored to be a fellow during the inaugural year of the Avery Institute for Social Change, an organization which has allowed her to continue to work toward eliminating disparities in health care, especially for racial and ethnic minority women.
