Through her practice, research, and mentoring Alice F. Chang, PhD has been an effective advocate and compelling role model for women and Asian-Americans in psychology. Dr. Chang received her undergraduate degree from U. C. L. A. in 1968 and her PhD from University of Southern California in 1973. In addition to serving on numerous governance bodies of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Chang was the first ethnic minority woman to be elected to the APA Board of Directors.

Dr. Chang's practice addresses identity and/or behavioral issues resulting from arbitrary external judgments related to gender and/or ethnicity, particularly among AAPI women, as well as the intersection of psychology with medically-diagnosed and chronic illnesses.

Dr. Chang was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993. She founded the Academy for Cancer Wellness, a nonprofit organization in Tucson, AZ, to recognize the courage of cancer survivors and their families, to support research into living with cancer, and to provide bridge funding for underinsured cancer patients.
