CITY VITAL RECORDS AT THE MUNICIPAL ARCHIVES
The Municipal Archives has records of births reported in
the five Boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn,
Bronx, Queens and Staten Island), prior to 1910; deaths reported
prior to 1949, and marriages reported prior to 1930. For a complete

Please
note that New
York State Vital Records outside the five boroughs of New York
City are maintained by NYS
Department of Health.
There are two ways you may obtain a copy of a vital record.
You may use one
of our convenient forms to receive your search result by mail.
Alternatively, you may visit the Municipal Archives to use
our self-service microfilm facility to research the genealogy collections.
You can access all indexes and certificates on microfilm and receive certified
copies of certificates.
RECEIVE A COPY BY MAIL:
VISIT THE MUNICIPAL ARCHIVES IN PERSON:
There are two ways to obtain a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate
when you visit the Municipal Archives in person:

You may search for birth, death and marriage records
yourself in our self-service facility. All birth, death,
and marriage
records, and the indexes that pertain to them, are on microfilm
for easy access.
- The fee to use the microfilm reader machines is $5
per day. You may consult as many microfilms as you
wish for this fee.
- You may fill-out an application form available at the
counter in Room 103 and one of the clerks will search for
the record and supply a certified copy of it, if the record
is found. The fee for this service is $15 per certificate.
