USTDA AWARDS GRANT TO DEVELOP CONTROL PROJECT IN NORTHERN PERU

LIMA, PERU - Mitigating El NiƱo - related floods on the La Leche River is the goal of a USTDA grant awarded today to the Regional Government of Lambayeque.  Located on the Pacific coast in northern Peru, the Lambayeque Region has experienced major floods over the past two decades, which have resulted in estimated losses of $ 200 millions in destroyed bridges, buildings, and roads.

The USTDA - funded study will analyze comprehensive flood control alternative for the La Leche River watershed and will identify the investments needed to implement the project. In addition to flood control, the project will improve water conservation and storage efforts to expand irrigation and potable water supplies in the region.

U.S. Ambassador to Peru J. Curtis Struble signed an agreement to officially confer today's $394,940 grant during a ceremony held last evening at the U.S. Ambasador's Recidence.  Lambayeque Region President Yehude Simon signed the agreement on behalf of the Regional Goverment of Lambayeque.  PEOT (Proyecto Especial Olmos Tinajones) General Manager (or Project Manager) Enrique Salazar and USTDA Country Manager Keith Eischeid witnessed the grant signing ceremony.

The opportunity to conduct the USTDA-funded study for the Regional Government of Lambayeque under the grant awarded today will be competed on the Federal Business Opportunities website (www.fedbizopps.gov) . Interested U.S. firms should submit proposals according to the instructions contained in the Federal Business Opportunities announcement.  The Regional Government of Lambayeque will select the U.S. contractor that will conduct the study.
