Virginia Railway Express
Virginia Railway Express is a commuter rail service that operates Monday through Friday from the Northern Virginia suburbs to Washington D.C. We primarily travel northbound in the morning, towards Washington, and southbound during the evening, towards Manassas (along I-66), and Fredericksburg (along I-95). VRE does not operate service on weekends or Federal holidays. Please consult the calendar page for specific dates.
The "S" trains operate daily. However, on selected holidays, in times of inclement weather, or other service disruptions, we will operate the "S" schedule, which means that only the trains marked with an "S" will run.
We also offer, in conjuction with Amtrak, the Amtrak-Cross Honor Agreement, which allows riders to also use the Amtrak trains (delineated by *AMT) listed on our schedule. Only VRE riders with valid Ten-Trip, Five-Day, Monthly, or VRE-TLC tickets accompanied by a Step-Up ticket are permitted on-board Amtrak trains.
NOTE: The Amtrak cross-honor agreement does not apply to Single-Ride, Round Trip Tickets and Free Ride Certificates.
