About the SIPP Bibliography

The Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) Bibliography is the most comprehensive on-line resource of published and unpublished documents that include data derived from SIPP and methodological analyses. Documents relating to the Income Survey Development Program (ISDP), the precursor to SIPP, are also included. The bibliography contains nearly 2,000 references to reports, conference papers, working papers, journal articles, dissertations, books, and book sections.

The references in the SIPP Bibliography were compiled from a variety of sources. Publications listed in the Census Bureau’s What's Available from the Survey of Income and Program Participation are included. Users of SIPP data were contacted and asked to submit related publications. Literature searches were conducted in several on-line commercial databases, including ABI/INFORM, AgeLine, Current Index to Statistics CIS Extended Database, Dissertation Abstracts, EconLit, ERIC, MEDLINE, and NTIS. Due to copyright restrictions or availability, abstracts and keywords are included for fewer than 20 percent of the records. Permission was granted to use abstracts and keywords from the following proprietary databases:

Users of this bibliography should be aware that it has not been possible to obtain a copy of each document in order to verify the accuracy of the bibliographic citation. Also, it should not be assumed that all relevant SIPP publications are included. Corrections and additions are appreciated. Please send an e-mail message to sippbib@westat.com with corrections or with new citations that you feel are appropriate for inclusion. Thank you.

SEARCHING THE SIPP BIBLIOGRAPHY

The bibliography can be searched easily by browsing author, Year, or Document Type. You can also search by entering your own terms at either the Full Citation or Title search prompts. The Full Citation prompt searches through all information available in each record. Fewer than 20 percent of the records in the bibliography include abstract and keywords. These will be searched when using the Full Citation prompt. You can search a single word or multiple words separated by spaces (matching any one search term will produce a "hit"). You can also search multiple words combined with the Boolean AND (matching all search terms will produce a "hit"). Phrase searching is not supported. Avoid the use of articles and prepositions.
