CPES Invited Talks at NRL and ARL Workshops

In early January, CPES Director, Dr. Fred C. Lee, gave two invited talks at separate workshops organized by U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL).

The invited presentation, "Power Electronics: An Enabling Technology - Industry Motivation/Impact," was given on January 7, 2009 at the NRL Workshop on "Energy Efficiency Through Wide Bandgap Power Electronics" in Washington, D.C.

The 2nd invited talk, "Micro-Scale Power Converters," was given on January 8, 2009 at the ARL "Advisory on Electron Devices (AGED) and Study Topic Area (STAR) Review Workshop on Integrated Micro-Power Sources" in Arlington, Virginia.

CPES Associate and Principal members are welcome to access these presentations via individual user accounts. (scroll down to Workshops and Symposia)

Welcome to the Center for Power Electronics Systems

Established in August 1998, the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) is one of the nation's relatively few National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers. Its vision is to provide the nation with the capabilities to become a world leader in power electronics.

In order to realize the CPES mission, a consortium of five universities has been established. Each University possesses areas of expertise that combine to form a strong multidisciplinary approach to integrated system programs. Following are the five Universities:

    Virginia Tech
    University of Wisconsin-Madison
    Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
    North Carolina A&T State University
University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez

Benefits of becoming an Industry Partner

Our Industrial Partnership Program is the base from which CPES is able to bring its vision to reality. Principal Partners of the Industrial Partnership Program have royalty-free, non-commercial use of CPES-generated intellectual properties and the right to review publications for patentable materials. They also have the exclusive option to negotiate royalty-bearing licenses for commercial use. Additional benefits include an opportunity to influence CPES's programs, rapid access to all research data generated by CPES, and a direct and continuous link with CPES faculty and students.
