Abstract: The Respiratory Rally is a special day for people with lung disease, their families and caregivers to learn better ways to manage their chronic lung disease. The day includes free medical screenings, the latest in lung health information, exhibits and a seated breakfast designed with the nutritional needs of the respiratory patient in mind. A comfortable treatment room will be available, free valet parking and door prizes are lined up too. Event registration is $10 per person. Speakers include Scott Van da Walker, RN, with “What is COPD?” and Mike Schwartz, MD, with “First you tell me you have COPD then you tell me I have pulmonary hypertension.” A question and answer period will follow presentations. Breakout sessions are led by Christine Kveton, RT, on “Advancements in Transtracheal Oxygen,” Leslie Schumann on “Airway Clearance Devices” and Brenda Crowe, RT, on the “Importance of Maintenance Pulmonary Rehab.”

Abstract: The first step in living with lung disease means learning about lung disease. Join the thousands of others with chronic respiratory disease across the country who participate in the American Lung Association Better Breathers Clubs. These free classes are taught by a professional with expertise in lung disease, and they provide participants with information on lung disease, medication, nutrition, and exercise.

Abstract: To help increase awareness of COPD, Battle Creek Health System is again offering a physician-led series, scheduled quarterly on Tuesday afternoons. The next program in this series, to be held on June 23, is titled 'Chronic Lung Treatment Options.' The third meeting, on September 22, is 'Restrictive Lung Diseases,' and the final program is scheduled for November 24, titled 'Staying Well with Chronic Lung Disease.' Following the program there will be a short time for general questions and support. A pulmonary rehabilitation therapist will also be on hand to answer questions and give a short tour of the outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation center.
