Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- If you were adversely affected by the June floods and wish to meet with Recovery Specialists to discuss assistance, there are only a few days left to visit a Disaster Recovery Center. State and federal officials have announced that all five Disaster Recovery Centers will close at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

Through 2 p.m., July 13, residents of the 21 declared counties can get answers to questions and check on the status of their applications at the Disaster Recovery Centers located at the following locations:

Although the centers are closing, help is still as close as your phone. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) maintains a toll-free disaster phone line. To register, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Anyone with questions about FEMA programs or the status of their application may call the same number for answers. Those who are hearing- or speech-impaired can call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 to apply or to check on their applications. The telephone numbers are operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CDT, seven days a week until further notice.

Since the June 19 federal disaster declaration, 1,241 residents have registered for disaster assistance and $1,476,541.90 has been approved as of July 7.

Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for flood-damaged residential and business property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance, and other special services are also available to persons affected by the disaster.
