Flood Insurance Workshop For Insurance Producers, Lenders, Community/Government Officials To Be Held In Iowa

Kansas City, MO -- National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) officials will hold a workshop June 13, in Marion, Iowa. The workshop is designed to help insurance producers, lenders and community/government officials better understand the flood insurance program.
The seminar is co-sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the National Flood Insurance Program. Additional sponsors include Linn County Planning and Zoning and Farmers Insurance Group.
"Flooding is the most common type of disaster to which FEMA responds," said Richard Hainje, director of FEMA's Region VII office in Kansas City. "With that in mind, FEMA continues to reach out to communities to explain the importance and benefits of purchasing and maintaining flood insurance policies."

"Recent flooding in Iowa has again proved flood insurance is an important risk management tool to the taxpayers," Hainje said.
The NFIP, administered by FEMA, makes federally backed flood insurance available in communities that adopt and enforce floodplain management ordinances to reduce future flood damages. Currently, more than 4 million NFIP policies, representing more than $ 605 billion in coverage are in force in approximately 19,000 participating communities nationwide. Flood insurance can be purchased from any licensed property insurance agent for properties in participating communities.
