FEMA Schedules Public Assistance/Infrastructure Briefings for Local Governments-Some Nonprofits Also Eligible to Attend

Columbia, MO -- To help local governments and eligible private nonprofit organizations apply for federal disaster recovery assistance, a series of briefings is scheduled for those counties declared eligible for Public Assistance in connection with the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from April 24 through June 10.

The Public Assistance/Infrastructure Program provides federal funds to reimburse costs up to 75 percent for removing debris, conducting emergency activities and repairing levees, roads, bridges, utility and water control facilities, public buildings, and parks.

Government entities eligible to participate include state agencies, local governments and river authorities.

Eligible nonprofit organizations must have a tax-exempt ruling from the Internal Revenue Service or a nonprofit certification from the state. In addition to utilities, eligible organizations may include educational, emergency, medical, rehabilitation, and temporary and permanent custodial care facilities (including those for senior citizens and those for individuals with disabilities).

Eligible Public Assistance/Infrastructure applicants may attend a briefing at a site most convenient to them. Briefings are set for:

Counties declared for Public Assistance are: Adair, Barry, Barton, Bollinger, Boone, Butler, Camden, Cape Girardeau, Carroll, Carter, Cedar, Chariton, Christian, Clark, Cooper, Crawford, Dade, Dallas, Dekalb, Dent, Douglas, Grundy, Howard, Howell, Iron, Johnson, Knox, Laclede, Lafayette, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Linn, Livingston, Macon, Madison, Maries, Marion, McDonald, Mercer, Miller, Mississippi, Oregon, Osage, Ozark, Perry, Phelps, Pike, Polk, Pulaski, Ralls, Ray, Reynolds, Ripley, Schuyler, Scotland, Scott, Shannon, Shelby, Ste. Genevieve, Stoddard, Stone, Sullivan, Taney, Texas, Vernon, Wayne, Webster and Wright.

Public Assistance briefings were held May 29 and 30 in Mt. Vernon, Kirksville, Bolivar, Trenton, Monticello and Nixa. From June 4 through 7, they were held in Jefferson City, Rolla, Boonville, Nevada, Richmond, Pineville, Mansfield, Bowling Green, Winona and Piedmont.

Any eligible applicant throughout the state who has not yet attended a briefing must attend one in the current series to start the application process.
