Biography

John Bruce Craig, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, was confirmed by the Senate on July 31, 1998, as U.S. Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. His previous assignment was Director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs in the Bureau of Near East Asian Affairs.

Ambassador Craig has held assignments in several overseas locations: Saudi Arabia, Libya, Egypt, Haiti, and Colombia. He served as Deputy Chief of Mission in both Syria and Colombia.

While in Washington, Ambassador Craig worked in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, and served as the director of the Junior Officer Division in the Bureau of the Personnel.

Ambassador Craig received his bachelor's degree from American University. He speaks Arabic, French, and Spanish.
