AARDA will celebrate Mother's Day on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at its signature fundraiser, the 9th Annual Victorian Tea at the Dearborn Inn: A Marriot Hotel, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. A tea lunch, entertainment, silent auction and a raffle will provide a wonderful way to honor your Mom, Sister, Favorite Aunt or Special Friend.

This year's event will feature a silent auction showcasing items such as a stay at The Grand Hotel, Detroit Zoo ticket bundle, jewelry, baskets, Detroit Tigers tickets, and a WDIV-TV studio tour with meteorologist Chuck Gaidica, who also will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event. The program includes a Victorian dance demonstration by The Pleasant Moments Vintage Dancers, a dance troupe from Ann Arbor.

Ticket Prices: $55 (Adults) $30 (Youth 5-17) Reservation are required. To purchase tickets call AARDA today at 586-776-3900. Charges are accepted.

Know Your Family AQ

The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA) has launched its first-ever national public service (PSA) campaign titled, "Know Your Family AQ," starring well-known actress and longtime AARDA spokesperson Kellie Martin.
AQ is a play on IQ and stands for Autoimmune Quotient. How likely are you or a loved one to develop an autoimmune disease? It is designed to educate Americans about the existence of the close genetic relationship and common pathway of disease among autoimmune diseases, which helps explain the clustering of these diseases in individuals and throughout families.

Men Get Autoimmune Diseases, Too
AARDA's New Autoimmunity Public Service Campaign Alerts Men About Their Autoimmune Disease Risk.

The campaign launched on April 3, 2008 consists of 30-second radio and television public service announcements (PSAs) and education materials designed to raise awareness about the fact that, while women are disproportionately affected, these diseases do not discriminate when it comes to gender. Specifically, the PSAs inform men about the importance of knowing their family AQ.
