Images from the History of Medicine (IHM)

Question: I want to use an image for a research paper. Do I need to obtain permission from the Library?
Answer:

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) generally does not own rights to its collections and cannot grant or deny permission to publish or otherwise distribute material in its collections. It is the responsibility of anyone using IHM, to ensure that any use of the reproductions is in compliance with the U. S. Copyright Law (Title 17, United States Code).
