NCCAM-Specific Information:
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) offers the P30 Core Center Grant program to encourage US research institutions to enhance interdisciplinary research in their CAM and/or integrative medicine programs by providing start-up packages for promising, newly-independent faculty with outstanding potential for a career in integrative medicine research.  Priority will be given to new hires likely to focus on research areas prioritized by NCCAM.  For information on current NCCAM research priorities, please see the NCCAM website. 
Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NCCAM expects to make between 2 and 3 awards, with total funding of approximately $2 million over the two-year period of FY 2009 and 2010.
Budget and Project Period. Budgets for direct costs of up to $500,000 per year and project duration of up to two years may be requested, for a maximum of $1,000,000 direct costs over a two-year project period.
Eligibility: Academic Institutions with active Integrative Medicine or Complementary and Alternative Medicine research programs are eligible.

Other information:  NCCAM requires that any faculty members hired under this initiative receive joint appointment(s) with other academic units at the applicant institution, allowing new faculty access to University-wide research resources and core facilities, and to serve as mentors for graduate programs affiliated with other academic units.
