NCI Specific Information:
Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards: The NCI expects to make up to a total of 10 awards with funding of approximately $8 million in total costs each year for the two year period FY2009 and FY2010.
Budget and Project Period: Budgets for direct costs of up to $500,000 per year and project duration of up to two years may be requested, for a maximum of $1,000,000 direct costs over the two-year period.  Additionally, indirect costs may be requested.  
Eligible Institutions:  U.S. domestic public or private institutions, including universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories and NCI-designated Cancer Centers, seeking to enhance their capacity to conduct translational cancer research. 
Number of applications: NCI will accept only one application per institution for this initiative
Eligible new faculty candidates: Early stage investigators (ESI) who are physician scientists committed to a career in translational cancer research; or laboratory-based PhD ESI’s, including quantitative scientists, committed to a career working with clinicians in the design and implementation of translational cancer research.  For the purpose of this FOA, translational research is laboratory-based research conducted by a physician scientist ESI that is subsequently moved into clinical applications; or conducted by a laboratory-based PhD ESI that is subsequently moved into clinical applications in partnership with clinicians/clinician researchers.

Other information: Within 90 days following the issuance of the NoA, awardees must provide to the Program Director named in the NoA, the names and biosketches of  the new faculty hired and their mentors. Highest priority will be given to applications from institutions making a commitment of 2 years of additional support beyond the P30 at the same level of support as provided by the P30.

The P30 faculty recruitment grants are available to any U.S. academic or medical department for the recruitment of faculty members with a focus on an issue in alcohol research.

NIAMS Specific Information
The NIAMS offers the P30 Core Center Grant program to enhance capacity in all areas relevant to the NIAMS mission by providing support for the hiring of new tenure-track faculty. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards: The NIGMS expects to make up to 20 awards in FY 2009, with total funding of approximately $10 million over the two year period of FY 2009 and 2010.
Other information: NIGMS expects institutions to conduct open searches and seek faculty applications from women, members of racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. This aspect of the proposed faculty recruitment strategy will be considered in funding decisions. Applications should describe plans for outreach and recruitment, as well as the recruitment process (e.g., the number of applications received, demographics of the applicant pool, interviews scheduled, etc.). Highest priority will be given to applications confirming an institutional commitment to provide two or more additional years of support after the end of the award. NINR Specific Information
The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) offers the P30 Core Center Grant program to encourage US schools of nursing to enhance their capacity to conduct research. The goal of this funding opportunity is to encourage U.S. schools of nursing to augment and enhance their capacity to conduct research in health promotion and disease prevention, improving quality of life, eliminating health disparities, end of life and bio-behavioral methods relevant to the NINR Strategic Plan.
Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NINR expects to make 3 awards during FY 2009, with total funding of approximately $1,500,000 over the two-year period of FY 2009 and 2010.
Budget and Project Period. Budgets for direct costs of up to $500,000 per year and project duration of up to two years may be requested.
Eligibility:  US schools of nursing are eligible.
Number of applications:  Only one application per institution will be accepted.

NCCAM-Specific Information:
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) offers the P30 Core Center Grant program to encourage US research institutions to enhance interdisciplinary research in their CAM and/or integrative medicine programs by providing start-up packages for promising, newly-independent faculty with outstanding potential for a career in integrative medicine research.  Priority will be given to new hires likely to focus on research areas prioritized by NCCAM.  For information on current NCCAM research priorities, please see the NCCAM website. 
Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NCCAM expects to make between 2 and 3 awards, with total funding of approximately $2 million over the two-year period of FY 2009 and 2010.
Budget and Project Period. Budgets for direct costs of up to $500,000 per year and project duration of up to two years may be requested, for a maximum of $1,000,000 direct costs over a two-year project period.
Eligibility: Academic Institutions with active Integrative Medicine or Complementary and Alternative Medicine research programs are eligible.
Number of applications:  Only one application per institution will be accepted.
Other information:  NCCAM requires that any faculty members hired under this initiative receive joint appointment(s) with other academic units at the applicant institution, allowing new faculty access to University-wide research resources and core facilities, and to serve as mentors for graduate programs affiliated with other academic units.
