Turkish officials say Iraqi Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has arrived
in the Turkish capital, Ankara, for talks with officials on the
political situation in neighboring Iraq.

Several media reports
on Friday said the staunchly anti-American cleric was scheduled to meet
with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.
Sadr is the most
prominent Shi'ite opponent of the U.S. military presence in Iraq. He
has not been seen in public since 2007, and he is believed to have been
either in Iran or hiding in Iraq.
His supporters have
periodically relayed messages to protest rallies, most recently last
month, on the sixth anniversary of the U.S. capture of Baghdad.
